Change

I must agree my world has changed a lot since the last time I posted something on this blog.
Sometimes I think all the effort I have put in here to create this space is an utter waste. Is there anybody who reads what I write. I am afraid not.

Posting all thes doesn't account to me anywhere. All that I put in here does not come up when my name is searched for. I should say that demotivates me a lot. I end up asking myself "what for"!!

I have been searching on how to make my SPACE appear on google search but have wound up with little hope.
Does anyone have a clue how to open a entry door for the netizens to my blog.

Please do share your thoughts with me.

I started of with the topic CHANGE. Speaking of change, let me put it down here that I am not the college going kid anymore. I made this post on the day prior to the campus interview that got me my job. I have been working for an MNC for more than an year now. An "EMPLOYED ME". Can you beleive it!! Well neither have I come in terms with that reality yet.

Reminds me of an Ogden Nash poem - am I a child or an adult. :)

Fishing

The ground in front of my house is flooded with water now. As the pound nearby has overflowed, the fishes there has migrated and sought abode in our playground. Its no longer US but them who are playing there. Hmm..how dare they?

We decided to take action against the infiltrators. Yeah, its fishing time. So what if we don't have a BIG catch. We are amaturers and soon we will be good at it!

Now don't be deceived by these harmless three. There are bigger and not so easy to catch occupants too. Their day will come.
And in case you are what we do with these fishes - we catch them, divide the catch amongst us and deposit the fishes in the well of participant's house. Today, the well in my house welcomed the above 3 fishes. Actually we got 4 in this fishing round at 6pm and more were caught in a previous adventure and put in my friend's well. The fishes will grow in the well and do the cleaning up work for the well.

fortune

At last I found something interesting in this DUMP Mandriva. Its called 'fortune'. Type fortune in comand prompt and TA..DA..a fortune pops up.

[anjali@localhost ~]$ fortune
Quick! Call Guiness book of world records! My Windows 98 hasn't crashed for
2 hours, 43 minutes and 9 seconds!!!

Roses

Four years ago, I planted a rose stem
My mother nurtured it like a gem
To flower and flourish, its time has come
Here are the photos, have a look at them.

secure moblie eh??

Recent realizations :

  1. PIN number of a mobile relates to the security of SIM card.
  2. There are 2 PIN numbers namely PIN1 and PIN2.
  3. Both PIN1 and PIN2 are by default 0000 and is assigned so by the network provider.
  4. Entering a wrong PIN no: thrice locks the SIM and will result in the phone demanding the PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) to be entered!!
  5. Entering wrong PUK 10 times can render the SIM permanently damaged!!
  6. PUK code is unique for a SIM and is provided by the network provider. The PUK can be obtained from the customer care at the mention of SIM serial number (those numbers on the back of the SIM). It is an eight digit number.
  7. I am not sure about this but I heard that on the SIM being permanently damaged a duplicate SIM with the same number can be obtained for Rs 100/- . I haven't tried this out YET ;-)
  8. PIN2 is used for setting up FIXED dialing i.e. the phone will permit calls only to the numbers we list in the 'fixed dialing list'.
  9. BSNL customer care number is 9447024365. Its functional from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm and do provide a decent service.

  1. Security code is associated with the phone security. It is the familiar keypad unlocking code. It is provided by the phone manufacturer and its default value is 12345.
  2. Entering wrong Security code thrice is 'inviting trouble'. Even entering the correct code later won't make the phone budge!! :(
  3. Switch off the mobile and power it on again to get past the 'security code demanding' phone.
  4. But still keypad unlocking and similar stuff the familiar 'Enter Security Code :' pops up.
  5. For Nokia mobiles solution for a lost security code is the MASTER code.
  6. Master code can be computed from the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identifier). A number of Master code generators are available on the internet. They generate the master code on entry of the mobile phone model and the IMEI. IMEI can be obtained from the phone on typing *#06# or from sticker on the last page of the phone manual. :)
  7. Bad News!! Master code is of no use for mobiles like 1100. :(
  8. For 1100 the option is to power off the mobile. Power it on again. Let it stay idle for about 15 minutes. Enter the good old security number. The phone would have by then forgotten the mishap and will accept the code (i.e. if it is correct :)...else have a great time entering all combinations and repeating this procedure!)
  9. If neither the Master code not the 15 min idle time works, contact the Nokia dealer.

Inference:

·         There is not much harm lurking in the security settings of a mobile phone.

·         A stolen mobile can be easily made genuine despite all its security options being set. :)  All you need is a decent internet connection.

Its magic.

Had there been no magic

Had there been no magic
Why do some wishes come true.
Had there been no magic
What is the divine bond of love.

Had there been no magic
Who takes care of our loved ones
in times, when we are away.
Why is there a helping hand
always in times of dismay

Had there been no magic
What is the basis of hope -
those we keep of a better tomorrow.
What keeps us going?
What is the strength at times of sorrow.

Had there been no magic
Why does a smile radiate happiness.
How is there a soul mate for every soul.
How come the thread of live
is woven with such great fineness.

Had there been no magic
What is the faith to which
every human soul resonates.
What is the beauty in a flower.
and what is the sweetness of honey?

Gandhiji

On the first page of a note book given at Regional Telecom Training Center , Trivandrum, I found the following quote by Mahatma Gandhi.

A customer is the most important visitor on our premises.
He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him.
He is not an interruption of our work. He is the purpose of it.
He is not an outsider to our business. He is part of it.
We are not doing him a favour by serving him. He is doing us a favour by giving us the opportunity to do so.
–Mahatma Gandhi

It was printed as a footnote to a photo of Gandhiji using a telephone. The picture was a very pleasent one but I couldn't find it on the net.

Recently I have been influenced by Gandhiji. Probably the effect of reading 'Waiting for The Mahatma' by R K Narayan. I am mused by how Gandhiji could 'multitask' from dawn to dusk with such perfection. Inspite of being a figure of such social importance, not the slightest of things escaped his notice. Being a person whom a nation looks up to definitely wouldn't be a easy job. Beside, this is the strict practice of truth and non-violence. Yes, he was right and I can say that from my own experiences. Speaking the truth is much more easier than making up lies. A lie demands more lies to substantiate it and each one of it comes with a conscience prick. Truth, on the other hand, is free of worries and guilty conscience. So, obviously truth is the better choice and easier to live by.

Non-violence....well I don't know about it. As far as I am concerned, I don't own a riffle and the knife in my house is used for the sole purpose of cutting vegetables.

Waking up at 4.00 am. Not when sleep comes only at 3.00 am.
Morning walk. Nay, Evening walk preferred.
If some one slap at one cheek, show the other cheek. No, never. I prefer to play turn-by-turn. Let them show their cheek this time!!

But, the life of Mahatma...that is something to look upon. How could he manage a huge number of things with such ease.
Waking up at 4.00 am. Bhajan. Morning walk. Public meetings. Spinning. Writing letters and dictating replies to numerous ones. Seeing everyone who came to him, finding solution to their problems and remembering every single detail about them. Traveling from place to place. Going to jail from time to time. Organising the nation wide Satyagraha ( that in itself is hell of a task ) - he used to write letters to his followers giving then defenite instructions. Asking them to promote Quit India movement in the remote villages of India, to convince people to abandon foriegn goods and asking then to surrender to the nearby jail in the final phase of the movement.

Indeed a man of great vision.
However, not everyone could follow the Gandhian ideals. Not then , not now !

Indifference

Eric S Raymond states in his essay 'How to become a hacker' :

To be a hacker you have to get a basic thrill from solving problems, sharpening your skills, and exercising your intelligence. If you aren't the kind of person that feels this way naturally, you'll need to become one in order to make it as a hacker. Otherwise you'll find your hacking energy is sapped by distractions like sex, money, and social approval.

Far before that, George Bernard Shaw stated in his drama 'A Doctor's Dilema' :

B. B : After all, was he so bad? He had only two failings:
money and women.
WALPOLE : I dont mind his disregarding the usual arrangements.
Confound the usual arrangements! To a man of science theyre
beneath contempt both as to money and women.
I just noted the similarity.
You, my dear reader, can make your own inference.

Cheers!

Do you know why we cling the glasses before we drink?

It is done so as to involve all the 5 senses.

We touch the glass.
We see the color.
We smell the drink.
And we taste it.

Hearing is left aside.
To involve the sense of listening we cling the glasses before a drink.
